Lutheran Resettlement Service (LRS) correspondence files (1948- 1964) contain correspondence, agreements, reports, and studies concerning LRS activities to aid refugees in the U.S. and abroad. Files specifically relate to cooperative efforts with Church World Service, International Refugee Organization, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LC-MS), Lutheran World Federation (LWF), and the U.S. Government. The NLC's efforts to lobby for better immigration legislation are also reflected in the correspondence. Correspondents include NLC officials and members; LRS officials and committee members; international, national, and Lutheran. Immigration agencies; Lutheran World Federation officials; and U.S. Government officials. Prominent correspondents include Cordelia Cox, the Division's immigration director; S.C. Michelfelder, LWF general secretary; Stewart W. Herman, director of the LWF Resettlement Division; Howard Hong, Senior Field Representative of the LWF's Service to Refugees; and Henry J. Whiting, director of the LWF's Department of World Service.
